Iron Deficiency in Adolescents

Iron deficiency anemia occurs at all stages of life but is more prevalent in pregnant women and young girls.

Adolescent girls are especially vulnerable to iron deficiency with the highest prevalence between the ages of 12-15 years when requirements are at their peak.

If your daughter is feeling tired or disinterested often, anemia could be the reason for it. This typically happens when a teen does not get enough iron in their diet. Other common reasons for them be iron deficient include rapid growth spurts and the onset of menstrual cycles.
