An amazing thing happened during the 65th World Health Assembly in Geneva this past week. Governments set the stage to agree to a historic target to reduce premature deaths from non-communicable diseases (NCDs – including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases) by 25% by 2025. The target is expected to be endorsed by all 194 of the World Health Organization’s Member States on Saturday, May 26.
Congratulations from Arogya World to the NCD Alliance and all members of the NCD community for coming together, working tirelessly behind the scenes, and securing this big win. This overall target of 25% mortality reduction by 2025 is ambitious and will drive countries to streamline their NCD policies and programs, their investments in health and health systems – making real a number of other targets that NCD advocates have been striving for. This is a big day in the fight against NCDs.
